CHECK OUT:

Design & Build Quality

I love the pattern on the back, the design is flat on all sides and can pretty much stand on its frame without support. Its dual cameras and flash are nicely arranged on the rear in their individual bumps, which gives it a classy look.

The back has a matte finish and feels nice on the hands, and it uses a side-mounted fingerprint scanner for security and works quite well to unlock the device as needed.

It also accepts dual nano-SIM cards and has an extra slot for a Micro SD card, that’s if 128GB is not enough for you. Infinix Hot 30 Play comes with a display design you probably won’t find on other devices at this price point. That is a hole-punch display.

Most devices at this price come with a water-drop notch. This one not only has a hole punch but also reasonably sized pixels. For design and looks alone at this price point, this easily takes top spots.

Display

The display, however, is a 720p LCD, which is expected for this category, but it looks great, and you can be fooled by its quality.

It also gets a 90Hz refresh rate, which so far in my experience, offers the smoothness you would expect. Actually, better than I expected for a low-budget device. It is said to switch automatically by default between 60 and 90, but I prefer having it set to 90Hz always.

Software & UI

The software is typical XOS with no surprises. Actually, there are a few surprises. While you get the typical pre-installed apps, it seems less aggressive than usual. Only Pump Store has sent notifications so far, and it can easily be disabled.

Nothing from the usual corporates, and that’s nice to see. But that’s not even the major surprise. XOS has seen some improvements to the UI, and a couple of new features added. One of them is the Material-U theme, as you can probably already tell from my home screen design.

“From the accessibility settings, you can turn on Dynamic Color to change some aspects of the UI to correspond with colors from the wallpaper.

This changes most of the icons to fit the colors from the wallpaper. The only catch is that each time you change your wallpaper, you need to go toggle it off and on. The icons will adapt to the wallpaper and can give you a clean-looking home screen.

Another major addition here is the multi-user feature that allows you to add guest users with entirely different apps and setups on the phone. So, when you hand your phone to someone, you don’t have to give them access to your private files. Just like with the Google Pixel, that’s a cool new addition. The feature is looking bright for XOS. This is version 12.6 based on Android 13.

RAM, Multitasking & Processor

Just like I said earlier, the Infinix Hot 30 Play comes with 8GB RAM, pretty much twice the RAM you normally get at this price point. So, multitasking shouldn’t be a concern. It’s powered by MediaTek Helio G37, which is a budget processor capable of running a device such as this quite well. For the basic user, it is done as a gaming-efficient one. But, I normally have my expectations low for an entry-level device.

Gaming Performance

I did try it out on gaming, and while it won’t give you high graphics gaming, it will play comfortably for the most part without any major lags as long as you don’t try to push it beyond the limit. Now, while I think for a gamer, you should be looking at the higher budget, the Hot 30 Play will handle some gaming you needed to do.

So, Call of Duty Mobile runs on low graphic settings here and a high frame rate. Not quite the kind of graphics performance you’d expect from a gaming device, but like I said before, if you plan to do some serious gaming, you should really have a higher budget. A device at this price point can only do so much.

Battery Capacity & Charging

The battery life is a major selling point, sporting a massive 6000mAh and can go at least a day and a half on standard use. The battery will not be a concern with this one. It charges at 18 Watts with the charger that comes in the box and is thankfully Type-C.

Camera Specs

The camera on the Infinix Hot 30 Play is a dual rear setup with a 16-megapixel main camera and a Fortress Ai lens, so practical one camera. The selfie camera is 8 megapixels.

The cameras of the Hot 30 Play give you performance at say is fitting for this price point. You get decent HDR performance from its rear cameras, and under the right lighting conditions, you should be satisfied with these photos. Its selfie photos are okay and will give you a nice quality, but not quite on HDRs that are absent here.
