These type of devices are to be used on DRY hair. If you try to use it on wet hair you will cause the water in the hair to boil which will not only damage your hair but can cause steam burns. You must dry the hair first. You can apply a water based thermal protector spray before drying the hair or an oil based pomade to the dry hair before straightening for additional heat protection and holding power. If used properly and if you condition the hair regularly it will cause no more damage than other thermal styling devices. I used it to straighten my very curly, long beard and it does not pull and does not cause much breakage. I used to either blow dry my beard straight or use a flatiron and had much more breakage and it took me longer. This hair straightening brush causes minimal breakage and I can complete my entire beard in a few minutes after drying it either by blow drying or letting it dry naturally. It is the easiest and fastest way I have found to straighten my beard and I use it daily. I have 3 thermal brushes and this one is the most effective and easiest to use. The only downside is the placement of the temperature control, which can accidentally be changed while using if you hit it with your finger while brushing because of it's placement on the back of the handle but this is only a minor inconvenience.. This brush works best by sectiioning the hair and then SLOWLY brushing from roots to ends on both the bottom and then top of each section once or twice. I hope you find this info useful. see less First let me state that I am both a licensed Cosmetologist and Licensed Barber and have been since the 1970s so this is a professional answer and not just an opinion. .It is a thermal styling device similar to a hot comb, curling iron, or flat iron. Dry hair or mostly dry hair with the ionizer setting on. Use a heat protecting spray on your hair as well as you should for any styling with heat

I would only use it on dry hair. If you use it on wet hair, you're going to be- basically- cooking your hair which will lead to dryness and breakage.
