Meeting Your God

Preparation is defined as the activity or process of making something ready or of becoming ready for something. We prepare ourselves for so many things in life, we get prepared for exams, a job interview, a birthday party, to get married, to build a house, to have children and the list goes on. Since we make so many preparations for different events here on earth, have we taken into consideration that we need to get prepared to meet God? Are we ready to face God and spend eternity with him? We have to keep in mind that everything that we are busy preparing here on earth will vanish (Matthew 6:19) but preparing yourself to face God will remain eternal (Matthew 6:20).

We cannot escape this meeting with God. We may run away from many appointments here on earth, but encountering God one day is inevitable. We all have to face God, whether we are believers or not, rich or poor and prepared or not. It is wise to get prepared for that day.

Amos 4:12 states “Prepare to meet your God”. This verse was addressed to the people of Israel, but it is meant for us as well. Meeting God requires a preparation. According to the Strong Bible definition, the word “Prepare” means “to be firm, be stable, be established, to be set up, to be ready, to make arrangement”.

In other words, we need to stand firm in our faith in God, be stable in our walk with God and be ready to meet God.

Why should we be prepared to meet God?

  • No one knows the day God will come

The following verses show us that no one knows the day God will come:

“But concerning that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father only”. Matthew 24:36

“But the day of the Lord will come like a thief” 2 Peter 3:10

It is better to get prepared to meet God than to be caught by surprise, for no one knows the date and time when God will come. In Matthew 25:1–13, we can read about the parable of the ten bridesmaids, where five of them were foolish and five were wise. The five who were wise took along extra oil and waited for the bridegroom. They were ready when the bridegroom came in the night.

Just like the five wise bridesmaids, we need to be fully prepared, watchful, stay alert and vigilant and be ready for the return of Christ.

  • Judgement Day

We must prepare ourselves to meet God since there will be a judgement.

“For we must all appear before judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may receive what is due for what he has done in the body, whether good or evil.”

2 Corinthians 5:10, God will judge everyone according to his acts and deeds. According to Romans 14:12, we will have to give an account of our life to God. We would like to hear the words “Well done, good and faithful servant” Matthew 25:21.

  • To be presented before Christ as a Holy and Blameless Church

Ephesians 5:27 “…and to present her to himself as a glorious church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless.”

From this verse, we can understand that God expects that his church be set apart, holy, sacred and faultless. We need to be prepared constantly to be able to present ourselves before God as a Holy and Blameless Church.

Now is the acceptable time and now is the day of salvation, 2 Corinthians 6:2. Isaiah 55:6:

“Seek the Lord while you can find him. Call upon him now while he is near”.

We should search God and prepare ourselves before it is too late.
