It was a successful end to one of the biggest events held on the continent as Makhosazane Twala made history and became the first person to win Big Brother Titans on Sunday evening.

The 25-year-old became an instant millionaire as she walked away with the $100 000 (over R1.7 million) grand prize. She was loudly cheered on by the studio audience as well as the masses who attended the viewing party in Sandton, marking the end of an unforgettable first edition of Big Brother Titans after 78 days.

The border-breaking show was a fusion of Big Brother Mzansi and Big Brother Nigeria, featuring 24 housemates from both countries.

After several intense weeks, Twala and the other five housemates made it to the finale, but she was the one who emerged victorious with Nigeria’s Emmanuel Kalu Ananga, known as Kanaga Jnr, taking the runner-up spot.

The journalist was overwhelmed with joy as she was presented with the prize money by hosts Lawrence Maleka and Ebuka Obi-Uchendu.

Present at the spectacular finale were Big Brother Mzansi season three housemates, Ukho Samela, Nthabi Mothutsi and Adindu Asuzu, aka Zino. Some of the Big Brother Titans evictees, including Yamkela Mwanda, Thabang Mazibuko, Khehla Sibeko, Mmeli Khumalo, Siyamthanda “Juicy Jay” Jawcu, as well as Nigeria’s Marvin Achi, were also there singing out loud in celebration of Twala’s win.

Musician and Reality TV star Londie London (real name Londiwe Zulu), who just launched her own braids brand, was spotted at the viewing party looking hot in an African fusion-inspired gold dress.

Nomsa Philiso, executive head of programming at M-Net Channels, said Big Brother Titans was an enormous success.

"We are delighted to have seen the housemates’ journey to the finale and we would like to congratulate all the housemates for giving viewers their best over the past few weeks. We are immensely proud to have brought Africa together for this incredible show."

Big Brother Naija Season 8 is said to premiere on July 22. Nothing has been confirmed about the South African franchise.

The DA recently released a controversial election ad in which the national flag is consumed by flames. Many took to social media to criticise the party, with former Public Protector Thuli Madonsela expressing disappointment, saying the DA could have used other ways to send its message.
