Subscriptions purchased from a Reseller

Auto-Renewal is only available if the subscription was purchased from Avid directly, not from a reseller. That's because you gave your payment and personal information directly to the reseller. It is not shared with Avid.

Here is what it looks like for Subscriptions obtained through a reseller. Notice there is no Auto-Renewal button in the upper right corner:

FAQ - Subscriptions

Q: If I turn OFF Auto-Renewal, what actually happens?
A: I
f Auto-Renew is turned OFF, your subscription will continue to function for the full term (monthly; annual; etc). At the end of the term, you will not be billed and you will be unable to launch your app.

Q: If I turn ON Auto-Renewal, what actually happens?
A: I
f Auto-Renew is turned ON, your subscription will continue to function for the full term (monthly; annual; etc). At the end of the term, you will be billed for another full term* and your access to your app will not be interrupted.

* German customers are beholden to a new law called the German Consumer Fair Act where renewals of annual subscriptions are no longer allowed. Instead, the annual subscription is ended, and a monthly license is provided.

Q: If I want to renew, and I bought my subscription with a discount, will I still get a discount?
No. If you used a discount when acquiring your license, it will no longer apply. Discounts are a one-time deal. "Crossgrades" are discounts as well. If you obtained this new subscription by crossgrading from an old perpetual license, that crossgrade discount was a one-time deal and no longer applies.

Q: What happens after my subscription expires?
A: The license will then enter a 14-day grace period. The purpose of the grace period is to provide you with a 2-week window of time to renew your license at whatever the current renewal cost is. During this grace period, you will NOT have access to your app. Once the license exits the 14-day grace period, it can no longer be renewed, and a new license will need to be purchased in order to launch the application.

Please pay attention to what kind of a license you have purchased:

  • Monthly Subscription, Paid Monthly: This expires in 30 days. Auto-Renewal bills you for another 30 days.

  • 1-Year Subscription, Paid Upfront: This expires in 365 days. Auto-Renewal bills you for another 365 days.

  • 1-Year Subscription, Paid Monthly: This expires in 365 days. Auto-Renewal bills you for another 365 days.

IMPORTANT: Do you have a 1-Year Subscription, Paid Monthly? A common misconception is that turning Auto-Renewal OFF during the year will stop payments. This is not true. You purchased a legally-binding contract for a full year, paid in installments. Turning Auto-Renewal OFF will simply stop the renewal of the following full year.  If you want a license that can be stopped at any time, then the need to purchase Monthly Subscription, Paid Monthly.

FAQ - Perpetuals

Q: Does the Auto-Renewal button affect perpetual licenses?
A: Perpetual licenses never expire. When you turn off Auto-Renewal in a perpetual license, you are ONLY telling the Update and Support Contract to no longer renew. Customers can install a version of the application they own on a computer, and as long as they never upgrade the OS and never want to upgrade to a newer version of the software, the perpetual license should always work.  This is a common practice by customers who want to create a "perpetual workstation" that runs for many years. However, if customers wish to upgrade to a newer version of the Avid application, or wish to upgrade the computer's OS beyond what the Avid application is capable of, then they will need to pay for the ability to upgrade. This is done by purchasing an upgrade & support contract while the contract is still active.  New perpetual licenses come with an upgrade & support contract that lasts for one term ( 365 days).

Perpetuals with Auto-Renewal ON:
Although perpetual licenses last forever, the upgrade & support contract attached to each perpetual license does have an expiration date. This is what is renewed.  At the end of the upgrade & support contract's term, Auto-Renew ON means you are billed for an additional term of that contract at the current pricing.

Perpetuals with Auto-Renewal OFF:
At the end of the upgrade & support contract's term, it will expire. For perpetual licenses, the application will continue to work. However, the version of software provided before expiration is the highest version that can be used.  Also, depending on timing, they may not be able to be upgraded to a newer version, and will not be able to open any support cases.
