Specifically, is the iPhone series 12 water resistant with salt water the same as fresh water?

With understanding that the iPhone 11 series and below are water resistant up to the specific meters and time frame only in FRESH/TAP water but salt water can cause corroding; Is this the same with the IPhone 12 series or has this been updated to a ‘universal’ water resistance for the new apple series (up to 6 meters of water resistance in tap water, salt water, pools, etc.)

The 6 meters thing is how the device was tested.

It is not a suggestion for real world use.

All phones are tested in fresh water free of chemicals.

Salt water is highly corrosive and will damage a device.

Apple suggests that you do not submerge your device in liquid of any kind.

Water resistance and corrosion resistance are two separate things.

The water resistance will stop water getting inside the phone, whether that is fresh or salt. However salt water can still cause corrision on any part of the phone it can get to. Think connectors, speakers, microphones etc.

If you value your phone don't take it in the sea. If it get salt water on it, rinse it off (gently) wiht fresh water as soon as you can.
