The iPhone 11 Pro Max is the larger of Apple's two 2019 flagship phones. Compared to last year's XS Max, it features major improvements to the camera as well as boosts in processing power and battery life.

iPhone 11 Pro Max: Price UK
The iPhone 11 Pro Max is available in the colours green, grey, gold and silver. Internal storage and lauch prices in the UK are:
- 64 GB: £1149
- 256 GB: £1299
- 512 GB: £1499
This is about £100 more than the iPhone 11 Pro and approximately £420 more than the iPhone 11. Prices for the iPhone XS Max and the iPhone 8 Plus have both fallen in the wake of the new releases.
IP68 Waterproof
All three 2019 iPhones are IP68 dust and water resistant. The two Pro models can withstand submersion in up to 4 m of water for 30 minutes. The Pros also feature a more refined design with a polished stainless steel frame and matte finish on the back. They are crafted from what Apple calls the hardest glass ever built into a smartphone.
6.5-inch OLED Display
The iPhone 11 Pro Max features a 6.5-inch OLED display with FHD resolution. This gives the screen the same pixel density of 458 ppi as the smaller Pro. The display still includes Apple's notorious notch for the front camera lens. Unlock takes place via Face ID.
Power Boost
The new A13 bionic processor is said to offer a 20% boost in performance over the 2018 phones. Paired with 6 GB RAM in the Pro Max, it especially shines during gaming -- an area in which Apple has traditionally been weak. The 3500 mAh battery is expected to last for up to 20 hours of video playback. It can juice up to 50% in 30 minutes via the included fast charger. Wireless charging is also supported.
Triple Rear Camera
- 12 MP standard lens
- 12 MP ultra-wide lens
- 12 MP telephoto lens
One of the major improvements over the 2018 iPhones is the triple rear camera. In addition to the standard lens, the smarphone is outfitted with a 26 mm ultra-wide with a 120° field of view and a telephoto with 2x optical zoom. This may be no big news for Android users, but it is for Apple. Combined with the brand's other technology, results are outstanding. In fact, testers at The Verge call it the "best camera on a phone" currently (17/09/2019).
New Modes & Features
Apple has given users more control in Portrait mode, enabling them to adjust depth of field to create stronger or weaker bokeh effects. Night mode kicks in when ambient lighting is poor, ensuring that images are brighter and detail rich. The screen now displays the image from the main lens and from the ultra wide-angle simultaneously. This allows you to determine which is the better choice for any particular shot. Meanwhile, Deep Fusion technology (a sort of AI), captures 8 images plus a long exposure, choosing the best of each to combine into the ideal image.
More Video Options
Video has also been improved. It now offers several modes for intuitive handling and better results. It is possible to record with an extended contrast range, ensuring that light and dark areas are more detailed. You can also toggle between video and photo mode with a single press. The front camera includes a new slow motion feature, called "slofie". iOS 13 operating system provides an extensive selection of post-processing tools.
iPhone 11 Pro or Pro 11 Max?
The main differences between the Pro and Pro Max are:
- Display Size: 5.8 vs. 6.5 inches
- Battery: 3190 vs 3500 mAh
These are both factors of the phone's size. Performance, camera and display technology are identical. However, both Pros differ from the significantly cheaper iPhone 11 in the following areas:
- Display technology: OLED rather than LCD panel
- Display size: 6.1 (iPhone 11), 5.8 (Pro) and 6.5 (Pro Max).
- Resolution: FHD rather than HD
- RAM: 6 GB rather than 4 GB
- Main Camera: triple rather than dual
- Waterproof: all phones are rated IP68, but the Pros can withstand submersion to a greater depth
- Fast charger: included with the Pros but not with iPhone 11
