Display

The iPhone 6 was good in its time. However, it doesn’t stand a chance when you compare it to even the worst phones of 2023. It rocks a 4.7 inches IPS LCD with 750×1334 pixels resolution. The display gets protection from Ion-strengthened glass, and the oleophobic coating ensures it’s always pleasant to use.

Since Apple introduced 3D Touch with the iPhone 6s, the iPhone 6 lacks the feature. However, the phone has a fingerprint sensor built into the home button, making it unnecessary to enter a passcode each time you need to unlock your phone.

Processor

The iPhone 6 uses a dual-core Apple A8 processor with a 1.4 GHz clock speed. While that was enough in 2014, it’s nowhere near what you need for apps in 2023, so you should expect the phone’s interface to feel sluggish. The PowerVR GPU should improve graphical performance, but it’s nowhere near enough.

For comparison, the A11 Bionic on the iPhone 8 lineup has six cores, two running at 2.39 GHz and the rest running at 1.4 GHz. Unsurprisingly, the iPhone 8 runs circles around the iPhone 6 in performance, which isn’t surprising, as it’s several generations newer.

Battery

The iPhone 6’s 1810 mAh battery capacity only sounds mediocre because we now use smartphones for YouTube, TikTok, and gaming. Since those didn’t exist for smartphones during the iPhone’s initial release, Apple did not design its battery to accommodate such heavy usage.

While I don’t recommend buying an iPhone 6 for heavy usage, a power bank wouldn’t be optional if you plan to use the iPhone that way.

Cameras

The iPhone 6 features a camera system that would seem quite strange to a buyer in 2023. It has a single 8 MP rear camera with an f/2.2 aperture. The camera supports phase detection autofocus and a dual LED flash to light up night shots.

Unsurprisingly, the camera can only capture 1080p video at 60fps with 720p slo-mo. The selfie camera is even worse; it’s a 1.2 MP camera with no autofocus or flash functionality; it’s simply unusable in 2023. We’d imagine anyone buying an iPhone 6 in 2023 isn’t doing that for the camera.

RAM/Internal Storage

The device comes with 1GB of RAM, which is tiny, even for 2014. However, iOS is famous for its conservative memory usage, making the 1GB RAM sufficient for most things a 2014 user would want with their smartphone. In 2023, however, you may have to endure lags and stutters to use the phone.

Water-Resistance

Water resistance for smartphones wasn’t as common in 2014, as the iPhone 6 lacks any IP rating for water or dust resistance. Even if the iPhone 6 lineup features a water resistance rating, you should generally not trust it since it’s at least eight years old.

Repairs and modifications typically damage a phone’s water resistance seal, and almost no iPhone 6 hasn’t undergone a fix at least once.

Operating System

The iPhone 6 ran iOS 8 out of the box, but it lets you upgrade to a more recent version of the operating system: iOS 12.5.6. While iOS 12 isn’t unusable, it no longer supports most apps the average user uses on their smartphone, including Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.

An iPhone 6s is the bare minimum iPhone capable of updating to iOS 15 that supports all of those apps.

Price

The iPhone 6 costs anywhere from N35,000 to N100,000 on the Nigerian market, but I don’t think there’s a fair price for it as nobody should buy it anyway. If iOS 12 could work for you, be my guest.

It was probably pretty fast at iOS 8 but it should be fine in iOS 12 for most who haven’t heavily used it and drained the Battery or gotten it either second hand like me. Also, your correct about the weigh but the height is shorter on the iPhone 13 Pro to a iPhone 6 Plus, compare them again and see what Apple says too on compare iPhones (Not the display size, the section on Size and Weight^3. iPhone 6 Plus Height: 6.22 inches (158.1mm) and the 13 Pro Height: 5.78 inches (146.7 mm). I use my iPhone 6 running ios 12.5.5 as my second phone for youtube and other video sites, I don’t understand how people bend their iPhone 6. It’s performance is pretty ok for me because I always clear my resent apps so the 1 gb ram doesn’t bother me. i did a challenge on this myself for a video a few weeks ago and im surprised at how well the iPhone 6 holds up, i main an iPhone 7 so there was no difference in form factor, i had a 6 from 2017-2019 and it was just as good as i remember, aside from a few battery issues which i eventually fixed and then got the full performance after the performance management was turned off – DeltaCypher
