How do I delete my characters?!

Hi there,

Is there a way to PERMANENTLY delete characters that are level 50+?

I struggle with severe OCD and am finding it really difficult to enjoy WoW as a result of this issue (I am fully aware that this sounds ridiculous).

My main account has existed since 2008 and in that time I’ve accumulated a lot of characters through leveling, expansion boosts, etc. I used to love playing WoW when my account had a main and maybe two alts, but now I log in and see pages of different characters (that I never play/want to play) and it actually overwhelms me - to the point where I just end up logging off. I’ve even made brand new accounts to mitigate this issue but always end up wanting to my play my main again.

Is there a solution for this?

Thanks.

EDIT:

  • Thanks to everyone who has contributed to this thread. It’s been really interesting to read that there are other people who experience similar to what I do. Even if there is no solution, at the very least this thread can hopefully provide others with some insight into the inner-workings of players dealing with OCD, as well as other tendencies. Alternatively, if you feel like venting about your own experience then post them below!

Can’t just just delete via the character selection screen?

I assume he also wants them gone from the restore character screen. That or he has very bad eye sight to miss the delete button lol

Delete, then wait until the recovery window expires. You can do it, let them die.

If they’re level 50+ then they are always eligible for restoration in the character restore screen.

You can truly and permanently delete all your characters by deleting your actual account, which you may do by opening a ticket and stating this is what you wish to do.

Ah I see. Thanks for clarification.

If you transfer characters to a new account do the achievements transfer with them too?

50+ characters can not be deleted, even from the restore character screen.

Blizzard knows addiction and you can’t entice a junky back by taking away the “quick fix”.

It’s not so much addiction as it is having a “neat” account. Maybe a little addiction.

Permanently Delete World of Warcraft Character - Blizzard Support (battle.net)

This might help. As you can see, there are time limits within which characters can be restored. If its higher than level 50, apparently its always available for restoration. So would depend on what level your alts are.

Thanks, that’s the issue though - I have a bunch of 50+ characters that I never play and want to delete but as it stands there seems to be no way to do so.

You can delete then. They disappear from your screen.

If you really cant resist going through the undelete process, as someone said above, contact Blizzard and ask them to permanently delete the account.

Yes, it does seem so. I suspect Blizzard considers it risky to wipe higher level characters on the offchance someone will come back and want to play them.

I appreciate your OCD issues, I can only suggest that you still delete them, and just imagine they are gone since they won’t appear on your character screens. I’ve deleted characters and just smudged them from my memory since I figure its an “out of sight, out of mind” thing for me. Maybe give it a try on a couple of alts and see how you feel.

If you don’t want to wipe your entire account, that may be the only option. But the only way to delete an account is to delete your entire battle.net account, which might be a problem if you have multiple accounts linked to that.

Thanks for the lengthy response.

Unfortunately, I have already tried doing that but it just doesn’t work.

Like I said, I’ve got severe OCD and the fact that I have all these different characters with different names, levels, realms, achievement progress, etc., all spread across my account actually overwhelms me and makes me not want to play the game at all - which is a shame because I love it and have been playing it for a long time, lol.

Guess it’s a “me-problem” though.

you should probably talk with a therapist, or try management with medication.
it’s not really something blizzard support can help with.

Something about that page aint right.
I have level 25 characters that have been sitting there deleted for well over a year and they are still showing.
Not a big deal on my end…leave them there forever maybe I’ll pull one back out some day.
That page cant be current information based on my delete list.

Hmm, well it says it was updated 9 months ago. That’s still less than your ‘well over a year’ so… I dunno shrug its just another strange Blizzard thing I guess.

yeah, there are a couple level 24s still sitting in there too that its been over a year since they were deleted. I do have a LOT that have been removed, but no idea what levels they were.
Would be nice to know EXACTLY what the rules are for permanent deletion, to be quite honest

Get a second account.

Start fresh.

I did that for when I want to just chill and man it feels AWESOME.
