The cheapest of Samsung's 2020 flagship phones makes waves with a 120 Hz display and 8K video capture.

Samsung Galaxy S20

  • 6.2-inch display with QHD+ resolution
  • Triple main camera with 8K video
  • 1 TB memory expansion via SD card

Update: The Galaxy S20 Fan Edition is now available.

Launch Price UK

The Galaxy S20 is the cheapest of Samsung's flagship releases. It launches at a price of £799 in the UK. The 5G-supporting version of the phone will set you back an extra £100. The Galaxy S20 Plus 5G, which offers a larger 6.7-inch display, a 4500 mAh battery and a more advanced camera, launches at £999. The S20 Ultra 5G, featuring a 6.9-inch display, the most advanced camera and a 5000 mAh battery, starts at £1199.

Keep in mind that great online deals are now available on 2019's Galaxy S10 and S10 Plus.

QHD+ AMOLED with 120 Hz

The S20 is the entry-level model in Samsung's 2020 flagship Galaxy S series. Though very similar in design to the S10, the top and bottom bezels have slimmed down, leaving even more space for the Infinity-O display. This 6.2-display features the widescreen 20:9 format, ideal for viewing films. Its QHD+ resolution (3200 x 1400 pixels) combined with Dynamic AMOLED panel technology and HDR10+ support ensures sharp, vibrant images with plenty of contrast. The 120 Hz frame rate delivers smooth scrolling and a lag-free gaming experience even for the most demanding titles. The phone backs up these high-quality visuals with a set of Dolby Atmos supporting, AKG-tuned stereo speakers for immersive audio.

Selfie Camera with 4K Video

Rather than marring the edge-to-edge display with an unsightly notch, the 10 MP front camera is located centre top in a tiny O-cutout. Along with the in-display fingerprint sensor, it is protected by scratch-resistant Gorilla Glass 6. And yes, the Galaxy S20 is IP68 waterproof. The camera itself is outfitted with Auto HDR mode and 4K video recording up to 60 fps.

Triple Rear Camera with 8K Video

The main camera is one of the major differences between the cheap Galaxy S20 and its pricier co-products. But don't think you're missing out by saving some cash. The S20's triple camera set promises to be one of the best on the market. The 12 MP wide angle lens with optical image stabilisation features a 1/1.76-inch sensor for noise-free lowlight shots. It is backed up by a 12 MP ultra-wide lens. The 64 MP image-stabilised telephoto lens delivers 3x hybrid optical zoom. Due to its high resolution, the 3x magnification should work with no loss in image quality. You also have 30x digital zoom at your disposal. The 8K video mode should set new standards in quality. It films at up to 30 fps and uses action-cam video stabilisation for sharp shots.

Top Class Performance

The Samsung Galaxy S20 runs on a powerful Exynos 990 processor with Android 10 out of the box. Paired with 8 GB RAM, it can handle even demanding apps and tasks with ease. The 128 GB of internal memory can be expanded by up to another 1 TB via microSD card. The phone is powered by a 4000 mAh battery that supports quick charging, wireless charging and reverse wireless charging.

Pros
  • Excellent display and very smooth scrolling
  • Responds very quickly to every touch
  • Versatile camera with good image quality in daylight
  • Hard-wearing and resistant to being dropped
Cons
  • Average battery life
  • Missing a jack socket
  • Fingerprint scanner could be better

Got the mobile phone with the new contract. I was really happy at first, but I have the feeling that it's getting slower and slower over time. However, the battery life is very good. Surfing the Internet is very fast on the network and WLAN. The phone has a great display and delivers superb colours. It is also scratch-resistant. The camera takes great pictures and videos
    Advantages: Long battery life
    Disadvantages: Slow menu

I can't say anything bad about this mobile phone so far. It fulfils my expectations in all respects. The battery lasts for one day even with intensive use. Charging, fast charging, super-fast charging and inductive charging are supported. The fingerprint sensor hangs from time to time.
    Advantages: Camera quality
    Disadvantages: Fingerprint sensor hangs

Good image quality even in the evening and at night. Battery life is much better than the previous model. Sound could be better. It would be nice if there were other ringtones. Payment via NFC works perfectly. The transfer of the old data went smoothly.
    Advantages: Top processing
Disadvantages: Camera light a little dark
