How to recharge your prepaid meter for the first time

You decided to make the switch, so you got yourself a prepaid meter, and you can’t wait to enjoy the benefits it has to offer: you only pay for what you use, thereby avoiding excessive billing, and you can get your token easily online. Congratulations, and welcome to the soft life.

Here is how to recharge your prepaid meter for the first time:

1. Ensure your prepaid meter is activated

Before loading an electricity recharge token for the first time, you need to activate your meter. Subsequently, this step will not be required to recharge. If you’re not sure how to go about this, find out how to activate your meter HERE.

2. Ensure that your User Interface Unit (UIU) is properly connected to your meter.

Just in case you didn’t know, the UIU is that device with buttons and a small screen that you interact with to carry out tasks like loading a token. This connection should have been properly done by the technician that installed your prepaid meter. Typically, this is not a problem, however, if it seems not to be on, kindly contact your DisCo.

3. Buy an electricity token from BuyPower
