Finally It's Official. The IS 250 is discontinued in 2016. Look for the IS200t RWD, an IS300 AWD, and an IS350.

put the 2.0T into the CT and make a fun GTI competitor!

u/SireBelch avatar

I wish I could like this comment a thousand times. I LOVE the CT. I own one. But it's so darn sluggish! It's fun to drive, but only once it gets up to speed (which seems like it takes forever!)

I'd buy a CT 200t in a heartbeat!!!

it would DEFINITELY introduce a hot hatch(kinda) to the brand, and if they TRULY are going after the enthusiasts, then this is how to do it. sedan AND hatch.

Takes more than an engine. The CT chassis just isn't there.

The CT200h chassis has been described as very stiff. What qualms do you have?

I found it incredibly uncommunicative.

So Europe don't get a six cylinder IS anymore?

Hello BMW...

u/charlesca avatar

If only we got the IS300h in the USA. I want that car so bad!

I'm personally both excited and disappointed in this announcement.

My old '14 IS350 was great, but really, an extra 30 horsepower would have made it excellent. On the other hand, the IS200t should be awesome... especially at my altitude (3,700ft) where NA cars lose 11.5% of their horsepower.

My next go around will likely be looking at BMW 335/Audi S4 due to the fact that they are FI. Losing 11.5% of your HP sucks :(

All Lexus cars are fuel injected (some port injection, some direct injection). But there's only one Turbo engine model which is tuned differently depending the car they're in.

I saw a picture once of a very limited edition Supercharged model, but I don't know the details on it. I think it was in a very localized market. Maybe it was New Zealand? I don't recall.

Anyway, the turbo should help your high altitude oxygen problem somewhat. Maybe take one for a test drive.

Sorry, by FI, I meant "forced induction" aka, turbo or supercharged.

I drove a 335 a few weeks ago and the difference between it and my IS was astounding. I never felt the IS was slow, but after driving the BMW, I certainly didn't think it was fast. The BMW creams it up here. Just absolutely annihilates it.

The S4 was also excellent, must more responsive than both the BMW or the IS. Where the IS shines is in how it tackles a curve, but given that 90% of my driving is in straight lines anyway, I don't really use that as the primary metric by which I rate cars.

Sadly, it looks like my business will go to Audi/BMW, maybe even to the upcoming Jaguar XE, simply because their cars feel powerful... even if on paper they aren't much more so.

So would it still be worth it to upgrade to the IS350 or is the 200t enough now?

u/JakSh1t avatar

I think that depends on your personal preference.

Unfortunately still can't get over the looks to trade in my 2IS for it.

u/elfreedpayton avatar

what kind of fuel economy/mpg do you folks anticipate for the is200t?

u/mattymo_15 avatar

Any mention on when the IS200t will be in dealerships? I am really hoping they are out before November/December when my current lease is up,

Uhh is the IS300 AWD gonna be a 2JZ??!! (Full chub waiting to commence)

Not a chance, that has long been discontinued (weight, mpg, power, etc).

You could always engine swap like this guy...

2jz?

Toyota's 2JZ engine was first manufactured in 1991 and is still in production today. It's a favorite among modders (especially the 2JZ-GTE; twin turbo 2JZ in the Supra) where they have found that getting 600+HP with little to no modification other than a turbo tweak was possible and reliable. The original IS300 was a 2JZ engine. Lexus/Toyota bringing back a car with a stock 2JZ engine (so you don't have to swap) would be a dream come true :-) It'd also bring the modding community to Lexus. Just google is300 turbo and you'll come up with loads of examples of the is300 2jz's... Like this one handily stomping an M3
