You might be surprised to learn that many animals are actually able to see into the UV part of the EM spectrum. From insects to fish and even certain species of mammal, this trait is quite common. We humans, on the other hand, appear to either lost it or never had it in the first place.

The team found that many of the animals, including hedgehogs, dogs, cats, ferrets and okapis (relatives of giraffes that live in the central African rainforest), have lenses that allow some ultraviolet light through, suggesting these animals may see in the ultraviolet.F

Do colored lights affect cats?

LED lights are generally safe for cats, & have not been shown to cause adverse effects. However, extended exposure to blue light can disrupt circadian rhythms & sleep patterns. Also, laser lights–which are not LEDs–can cause permanent retina damage for cats & humans, so proper caution is advised.
